Take chopped up rotten fruit and place it in a bowl. Cover it with plastic wrap and poke several holes into it.

Take a spray bottle and pour dish soap and water into it. Then, add some essential oils.

Method 3: Use Lavender Essential Oil

Soak a sponge into lavender oil and place the sponge in a jar.

The odor and light will attract the flies. They will get into the trap through the holes in the plastic wrap and will be unable to escape.

#ACV TRAP

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is fermented apple juice which attracts flies. In fact, all rotting or fermenting fruits are attractive to flies.

The mixture of ACV and dish soap is fatal for flies because the soap will make the flies sink when they touch the liquid, so they won’t be able to survive.

Things you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 table spoon of liquid dish soap
  • Jar
  • Plastic wrap
  • Toothpick

Mix the ACV and dish soap in a jar, then se plastic wrap to secure the opening of the jar. Use the toothpick to poke several holes into the wrap. The ACV will attract the flies with its smell, and they will get into the jar through the holes in the plastic wrap where they will sink into the mixture.

#FRUIT TRAP

Use overripe or rotten fruit. This will attract flies and capture them, but it won’t kill them. You just need to place the rotten fruit into the bowl and let the flies come in.

Things you’ll need:

  • Fruit, overripe or rotten
  • Bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • A pair of scissors
  • Toothpick

Use whatever kind of rotten fruit and place it into the bowl. Cover the opening of the bowl with plastic wrap and poke several holes into it. This way, the smell of the rotten fruit will attract the flies and they will enter the bowl through the holes. Then, put the bowl into a soapy water so the flies will die.

METHOD 2: USE DIY FLY REPELLENT SPRAY

You can make your own natural herbal spray to get rid of flies. You can make it with soapy water, essential oils, peppermint, lemongrass, as they have a strong scent that makes flies go away.

Things you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 table spoons of liquid dish soap, diluted
  • 10-12 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 10-12 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • Spray bottle

Mix water and dish soap and pour it into the spray bottle. Then, add the essential oils and mix everything well. Spray all over the house on every 2 weeks.

METHOD 3: USE LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

Lavender acts repellently on flies. You can soak a sponge into lavender oil as to prolong the action.

Things you’ll need:

  • Lavender essential oil
  • Sponge
  • Jar or can with a lid

Apply several drops on a sponge, put it into a jar and close the lid tightly. Leave it overnight, so the smell will become more concentrated and will be stronger when you open the jar.

METHOD 4: USE CLOVES AND LEMON

The smell of cloves isn’t attractive to flies. In a combination with lemon it is disgusting for flies. It is safe as it is made of natural ingredients.

Things you’ll need:

  • Lemon
  • Cloves
  • Cut the lemon into halves and put the cloves into the pulp of the lemon.

TIPS:

Before reuse, wash the jar with hot water and soap. Also, you should clean well the jars where you keep rotten fruit. You can plant peppermint, lavender and lemongrass around your house as they will keep the flies away.
